Making Your Own Capsaicin Cream for Sore Muscles

What do you do when you work in the yard and go beyond your limit; I mean your muscle limit? Sore muscles are not fun, actually it’s down right painful. My husband has been fighting a sore shoulder for several weeks and of course everything he does requires him to use that arm.

Now what about rubs and medicine for sore muscles or just aches and pains that are not life threatening but a nuisance pain. The following is a recipe I found for making your own Capsaicin cream.

It’s a warming agent generally used to treat sore muscles or joint pain. It is extremely effective for relief from the following symptoms; arthritis, sprains, strains and bruises.

The warming effect of the cream comes from the capsaicin, which is the same mineral that creates the heat in peppers such as jalapenos and habaneros.

You can make this cream now and know how it’s made and if it works before an emergency comes up.

  • 2 tbsp. Habanero powder (you can dry these chilies and put thru blender to powder)
  • 2 cups Sunflower or canola oil
  • A Saucepan
  • Stove
  • Cheese cloth
  • Storage jar
  • 11/2 oz. Beeswax

Combine the Habanero powder with the sunflower or canola oil in a saucepan. Heat the combination on low for 2 hours to allow it to combine fully. Stir every 15 minutes so that it’s mixed well. Strain the mixture through a cheese cloth into a storage jar. The jar should have a lid So you can store safely. Add the beeswax to give the mixture the consistency of a cream. Cover the jar and store.

Rub the cream on to relief sore joints and muscles. This cream is meant to be hot, but not so hot that it burns your skin. If this happens use less Habanero powder.

Safety

  • Wear gloves when applying capsaicin cream.
  • Do not apply it immediately after a hot bath or shower or use it with a heating pad.
  • Avoid getting capsaicin cream in eyes and other mucus membranes or broken skin.
