A Simple Concealed Compartment in Your Vehicle

Some people might want to make a hidden compartment in their car because they don’t want other people to see what they have in their car. Maybe they have a lot of money or something else that they don’t want other people to know about. Whatever the reason, making a hidden compartment in your car can be a good way to keep your things safe and out of sight.

Steps to Create a Concealed Compartment in SUV, Van, or Hatchback

  1. The first step is to measure the floor of the trunk in your SUV. You will need to know the dimensions so that you can cut the plywood to size.
  2. Cut the plywood to match the dimensions of the floor in your SUV trunk.
  3. Cover the plywood with carpet that matches the interior of your SUV. This will help to conceal the plywood and make it look like it belongs in the car.
  4. Place four legs (or something to raise the board off of the ground) under the plywood. This will create a space under the plywood where you can store things.
  5. Close the rear door of the SUV. The compartment is now concealed and can be used to store valuables out of sight.

It is a fairly simple idea that decreases the likelihood of your vehicle being burglarized

  1. I have a similar problem with lack of hidden storage. I put an ammo box under the hood. Bolted it from the inside and it has a lock on the outside. My vehicle has a lot of extra space under the hood and I could probably store a get home bag there if I wanted to. Most vehicles have limited space and perhaps the high value items from a get home bag could be stored in a small lockable box under the hood.

  2. I keep an extra pistol and 300 rounds of ammo in the tire well of my car. Screw down cover covered with carpet. Unless you know that model of vehicle you don’t even know the tire well is there.

  3. With grand theft AmeriKa, the government can and will steal you possessions via Civil Asset Forfeiture law without you being guilty of a crime or charged.

  4. I have something similar in my Saab, just not as tall as yours. Storing there some first aid and supples in case I get stuck somewhere(stuff like warm jacket, a small camping stove and a knife, everything pretty cheap since I’m mostly using it as emergency kit. I think it was like 70 bucks total at local outdoor sports store https://gritroutdoors.com/ so not too bad). Made the niche out of plywood and covered with similar material as my trunk, but it has a closed “face” so you can’t really access is without fully removing unlike yours.
