The problems of Carrying Weapons in Purses or Other Bags

carrying weaponsMy wife and I have had this talk on several occasions, about different ways of carrying weapons.  She has a tendency to default to her purse.  One principle always applies whether you are talking about a firearm, pepper spray, knife or a club.  The weapon is only useful if you can get it into operation quickly when attacked.

The other day I read about a female police officer who had her purse snatched.  She lost her firearm, because the mugger ran up behind her and grabbed her purse.  She had no time to react and lost her firearm and got into trouble at work. …

Protecting Children During TEOTWAWKI or Other Emergencies

protecting childrenIf you are a parent or grandparent you always worry about protecting children from harm during any life threatening emergencies. Now when I mention harm I am including psychological damage that can be caused by us creating an atmosphere of fear.  We don’t want to stress our children out.

After giving this some thought and research I have came up with the following steps for protecting children

1 – Don’t scare them.  Don’t start with camo face paint, smoke bombs and talk about killing people or violence.

2 – Make them feel safe.  Here is the story of one young child who was raised in hurricane country and was faced with the threat of storms on several occasions. …

Is Archery a Good Skill for Good for Preppers?

archery

The English longbow in use

The other night I was watching an old movie on television and they were showing archery with the English longbow.  Now I am a history buff, and have read extensively about the use of the longbow during the hundred year war between England and France. This got me to thinking about the use of archery in prepping.

Now I am not a good archer and will never be, because it takes considerable training and strength and I am too old..  During the 14th and 15th centuries, English archers were expected to shoot ten “aimed” shots per minute during battle.…

7 Reasons Not to Use Wasp Spray for Self Defense

wasp sprayNow I have seen all kinds of information on the internet that has been posted about the use of wasp spray for self-defense. The first time I saw it, I questioned it’s use for several reasons, since then I have done additional research on the subject and can find nothing that would convince me it works.

  1. There is no real proof that it works, all the information is just somebody’s story. No verifiable evidence.
  2. The active ingredients in most wasp sprays contain pyrethrins or pyrethroids. This is derived from the chrysanthemum plant and affects the nervous system.  It’s affect on a humans would not be rapid.

Riots, Demonstrations, Martial Law and Donald Trump

riots

As you can see, they were well organized

I rarely discuss predictions or make guesses about the future, but this time I am going to make an exception.  I am old enough to remember all the demonstrations that occurred during the days of rage in Chicago at the 1969 Democratic Convention.  The term demonstration is incorrect in reality they were riots, and very close to an armed insurrection.  In addition to this, there were numerous demonstrations and riots in various areas of the country, with the stated objective of stopping the war in Viet Nam.  They came very close to martial law in some areas.…

Situational Awareness, 12 Things You Need to Know

situational awarenessThis morning I have been thinking about situational awareness and how my perspective has changed over the years.  Twenty plus years ago before I retired I was very aware of what went on around me.  Situational awareness was something that was foremost in my mind.

Today I have come to the conclusion that without the constant reminders that we used to receive, I have dropped my guard to a large degree.  This is a mistake, I need to step up my game and pay much more awareness to situational awareness.  In the town in which I live, homelessness is becoming a problem and street crimes are up.…

Self defence for You and Your Home Without Owning a Firearm

self defense

From left to right a bokan,jo staff, tomahawk, hammer, cutlass, kukri and a couple of flashlights.

Self defence in many states is a bit of a problem.  For instance, I live in California which is one of the more restrictive states.  Now I am no expert on all the laws, but I have a rough idea of what you can use for self defense in this state.  So I am going to throw out a few ideas for people who can’t carry or possess a firearm.

Now in California, you can’t carry a firearm on you without a concealed weapons permit. …

How to Safely Survive a Riot

riot

Now by riot I am referring to a form of civil disorder commonly characterized by a group lashing out in a violent public disturbance against authority, property or people.  The type of riot I am referring to is different from an insurrection or TEOTWAWKI.  It is normally limited in scope and while it can cover large areas such as the WATTS riots in Los Angeles is normally confined to a limited area.

A major riot will normally only occur in a large city or in a venue where large numbers of people gather.  So far there have not been significant riots in small communities, but this could change because of flash mobs.…

HIPAA and How it Impacts Gun Control

HAt the time HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, was enacted, it was claimed that it would protect the privacy of people’s identifiable health information.  Since then it has been left alone with only minor changes.  However on Jan 4, 2016, the Federal Government at the direction of President Obama modified HIPAA to allow health care works to report suspected individuals with mental problems to NICS (The National Instant Criminal Background Check System).

Since then I have been trying to find out what exactly this means.  Recently I received the following information from a friend.  This is a summary of an article published in Clinical Psychiatry News.…

How to Protect Yourself During a Terrorist Attack

protect yourselfA friend sent me an excellent article and Youtube on how to protect yourself during a terrorist attack. It is prepared by Peter Burlingame who has studied how terrorists train, plan, and operate, since the very first Al Qaeda training tapes were recovered from the camps in Afghanistan shortly after 9/11… Now I don’t normally put up this type of post. but I made an exception because I think this contains some excellent information.  It first appeared in the Gun Writer,  Here is a link to the full article which I suggest you read in its entirety.

Here are some suggestions on what to look for in the article and the attached youtubes.…
