How to Safely Survive a Riot

riot

Now by riot I am referring to a form of civil disorder commonly characterized by a group lashing out in a violent public disturbance against authority, property or people.  The type of riot I am referring to is different from an insurrection or TEOTWAWKI.  It is normally limited in scope and while it can cover large areas such as the WATTS riots in Los Angeles is normally confined to a limited area.

A major riot will normally only occur in a large city or in a venue where large numbers of people gather.  So far there have not been significant riots in small communities, but this could change because of flash mobs.…

HIPAA and How it Impacts Gun Control

HAt the time HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, was enacted, it was claimed that it would protect the privacy of people’s identifiable health information.  Since then it has been left alone with only minor changes.  However on Jan 4, 2016, the Federal Government at the direction of President Obama modified HIPAA to allow health care works to report suspected individuals with mental problems to NICS (The National Instant Criminal Background Check System).

Since then I have been trying to find out what exactly this means.  Recently I received the following information from a friend.  This is a summary of an article published in Clinical Psychiatry News.…

How to Protect Yourself During a Terrorist Attack

protect yourselfA friend sent me an excellent article and Youtube on how to protect yourself during a terrorist attack. It is prepared by Peter Burlingame who has studied how terrorists train, plan, and operate, since the very first Al Qaeda training tapes were recovered from the camps in Afghanistan shortly after 9/11… Now I don’t normally put up this type of post. but I made an exception because I think this contains some excellent information.  It first appeared in the Gun Writer,  Here is a link to the full article which I suggest you read in its entirety.

Here are some suggestions on what to look for in the article and the attached youtubes.…

My Take On The Terrorist Attack in Southern California.

terrorist attackSince I have been slowed down, I got to watch all the news of the terrorist attack that occurred in San Bernardino yesterday morning.  The information that comes from the mainstream media is a mishmash of truth and speculation.  They use speculation and rumors to keep the public from facing much of the truth.

It amazes me how scared they are to face the truth and simply call it a terrorist attack.  Instead, they keep trying to make it a workplace attack or some weird combination of both. They have downplayed the fact that the wife was an immigrant.  From watching the news, it appears she was from either Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. …

Fight to Win, Not to Just Survive.

fightMost men and many women have been in some type of physical altercation.  In most cases this was just a schoolyard fight in which there was no danger of being seriously injured.  Now there is a big difference between this type of fight and one at which you are at serious risk of great bodily injury or death.  In the schoolyard fight, we often even followed some type of rules or sense of fair play.

When I went to school, kids did not use guns or other weapons, even though they were often available.  Today it is not unusual for kids to shoot and kill one another. …

Things to Avoid When You Carry a Concealed Weapon

concealed weapons

Don’t be this guy

The following is a guest post from a contact that works for IDF Holsters.  I agree with everything he says about carrying a concealed weapon and want to add one more piece of advice.  The operative word is concealed.  Every now and then, I run across someone who doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the word.  They like to impress others with the fact they are carrying.  This is stupid for several reasons, but the main one is you are giving away your biggest advantage, surprise.  Your weapon should be concealed but accessible.  Follow the advice in this article, get a good holster and dress right.…

The European Refugee Problem and Firearms Ownership

firearms

Refugees reaching for free supplies.

Quite a few of you read the post we put up a few days ago Refugees Over Run Germany, From an Expat’s Prospective.  Since then we have received more information on what is happening in Europe and the increase in crime rates.  Violent crime is particular is on the rise and firearms are not available for self defense. Law abiding citizens find firearms hard to get, but the terrorist have no problem getting them.

I have some contacts in England and they are upset over the way things are going there.  In many areas Mohammed is the most common name of new born boys.…

Protecting Your Home or Camp with Early Warning Systems, Part 2

The other day I wrote post on Protecting Your Home or Camp with Early Warning Systems.  As a result of this post, I received quite a few questions on how to implement the various systems.  Since there seems to be a lot of interest in this area, I am writing a more detailed post to explain some of the suggestions in more detail as well as add a few new ones.

For the purposes of this post I have made no efforts to camouflage anything in the pictures, in fact I have done just the opposite and tried to make them more visible. …

Protecting Your Home or Camp with Early Warning Systems

early warning sytems

A good dog can be both an early warning system and a deterrent.

In a real emergency, it doesn’t matter whether you are bugging in or out, you may need to be warned of intruders.  Today many of us sit at home with the doors locked, window closed and air conditioning keeping the temperature under control.  After a disaster, we may have to keep all our window open, to try to stay cool.  This eliminates some of the security we normally have.  If you have people, who are trying to take advantage of the situation by looting you may need to rig up some early warning systems.…

10 Last Minute Things to Do Before Teotwawki

10 last minute thingsIf you are watching the news and following events you know that the country could be in major crisis with very little notice. Now this is why we all prep, so that we can handle the unexpected. But suppose you have a few hours notice, what are the 10 last minute things that are most important.

1. Contact your friends and family and let them know what is happening. Get the kids out of school, get home from work, in other words get your group together.
2. If you are bugging out to a stocked retreat, load the car, fuel up and leave now.…
