A Complete Solar Light Package

I recently ran across a product called T-Lite made by Sundaya.  This has been developed for third world countries and is now available from Sierra Solar 1-888-667-6527.  It is a simple and relatively inexpensive solar powered lighting system.

It consists of 1 or 2 lights, a solar panel, a distribution hub, all the necessary cabling and batteries.  In other words, everything you need in one small package.  This system is so simple that a child could put it together in a few minutes.

The two lights each product  180 lumens of power at their highest setting.  At this setting it will provide light for up to 7.5 hours.  It has two other settings, dimmed, 90 lumens for 15 hours or lowest, 15 lumens for 75 hours.

T-lite being used as a flashlight.

The one light kit sells for $63.00 and the two light kit for $113.00.  I have been playing with a two light kit for several months and have had no problems with it.  My two light kit is the perfect size to light a 20 foot shipping container.

The battery is built into the light, so you can disconnect the light from the system while it is still on and use it for a portable light.  It makes a great flashlight.

This is a system that I can recommend.  Sierra Solar also carries other lights made by Sundaya, but I have not had the chance to use them.  The only downside is that it is not manufactured in the US. It comes from  Indonesia.  Currently Sierra Solar is the only distributor in the US,  and they are looking for dealers.

I decided to do my own emergency off grid lighting. It is cheaper that way and I use my stuff all the time. It is all very reliable. Plus I have some redundancy.
I have made and hacked or modified several flashlights. Here are just two of them. I modified a lantern type (6 volt “lantern battery) with 3 leds that had a run time of 65 hours. I added a resistor which was an improvent to the original design because the original flashlight was over driving the leds with too much current. The end result is a 360 hour flashlight for 5 dollars.

I also made a few super capacitor flashlights. This one has a run time of about 6 hours and according to the specs for the capacitor, It can be charged and discharged 500,000 times. The great thing about the super capacitors is that they charge at only 2.5 volts so you can still use a solar panel to charge them on a cloudy day.
