Something that is often forgotten in people’s preps is salt and sugar. Now, the reaction of most people when I tell them to store salt and sugar, is that these are not important items. Some even make the statement that for health reasons you should not store them. I am as health conscious as most people and try to avoid things that are bad for me. However eating sugar and salt is a better option that starvation, which can occur if you are unable to preserve your foods.

Personally, I intend to do some bartering, if things fall apart. Now what you trade and how you go about it is a bit complicated. First there is two things that I would be very careful about who I bartered with, ammunition and alcohol. Now I know that many people have stored extra ammo with the idea that it will be good trading stock. I believe that there will be a demand for many different types of rounds, particularly 22 and 12 gauge birdshot for hunting.

In a situation in which currencies have lost their value, regardless of how well you have stocked up, eventually you will need some item or skill that you do not possess. So how do you get it, do you beg or depend on the kindness of strangers. I hope not and that you have stocked up well and have a network of family or friends with whom you can barter.
