For years, I have used duct tape for all kinds of repairs. Duct tape is a great product and has served me will on many occasions. Now there is a new type of tape that I have found to be very interesting and useful. It is Fiberfix. They advertise it as being 100 times stronger than duct tape. It is made of a special waterproof resin, which also has the added benefit of being heat, cold and impact resistant.
The makers of Fiberfix make the following claims about Fiberfix.
FiberFix combines industrial-strength fibers and specialized resin into a repair wrap that hardens like steel”providing a permanent fix. Simply activate the repair wrap in water, wrap tightly around the broken object, and your item will be repaired within 10-15 minutes.
They claim that product is effective at repairing all types of mediums ranging from copper to wood. The Company states that their product is both heat and cold resistant and that because it hardens just like steel it can be sanded then painted over.
Upon seeing their claims, I figured this might be an excellent product for preppers. Now they actually have four different products and I have only tried the one. They make a repair wrap, a heat wrap, a rigid patch and a UV repair pen. Now the only one I have tried is the repair wrap. The tape comes in 1, 2 and 4-inch rolls.
Now I used a roll of it to repair a damaged shovel handle. This involved the tape sticking to both fiberglass and metal. We were very careful to follow the instructions. We had a box that contained two packages of tape.
Each roll of tape is in a sealed package that contains the tape, a pair of rubber gloves, a scratch pad and instructions. We put on the gloves and soaked the tape for a few minutes in a bucket of water. We then carefully wrapped the shovel handle, being sure to overlap the tape well. The shovel was then set aside for the tape to set. After about 20 minutes, we went back and the tape was set like iron. Fiberfix tape sets hard, it has no flex when dry.
Since then I have purposely put his shovel through a hard workout to the point of mistreating it. The tape has held up amazingly well, there has been no change since we fixed it.
Now I don’t know about their other products, but I will keep a few rolls of this tape around for emergency repairs. I think that this would work great for things like broken tent poles, tool repair and if put on correctly they claim it will work for radiators. Now does this replace duct tape, my answer is no. Duct tape still has a place for certain types of repairs. You need both. I would suggest that you take a look at this tape, it may be the perfect solution for many quick repairs you may have to make in an emergency.
