The other day while I was up at the FreezeDryGuy’s sale I was looking through the various water filters that he stocks and found some Doulton travel Filters.  Now these are a nice little unit that reminds you of a miniature stainless steel Berkey.
Doulton filters have been made in England since 1815, and were used throughout the British Empire. They are not as well known in the US as in other countries. Doulton are sold in the US, but more for whole house filters.
My wife and I travel quite a bit and it seems we often run into horrible tasting water in some of the places that we stay. So after doing some checking on Doulton filters and finding that there are of a high quality I bought one.
These will work a couple of ways, when we are traveling they will make sure we have good tasting water to drink and in an emergency we can drink ditch water. The Doulton Travel Filter is made of stainless steel and the bottom works well for a cup. The water goes through the filter at a reasonable speed and the unit will filter up to 600 gallons of water.
Doulton also makes larger water filters and it is my understanding that the filter candles will interchange with the AquaRain and Berkey’s.

After seeing the Doulton Travel Filter my wife had me buy a second. We will be taking one of these with us as we travel around the country.  While we do most of our traveling in the US those are a great solution to water problems for people traveling in third world countries.
