What happens if you are stuck in a large riotous crowd? Now this can be the result of an evacuation or bug out situation, a protest, food riot or any other mob-ruled violence.
Now, back in the early 70s, I was working undercover and got caught in a couple of the anti-war riots that occurred during this period. Once, I even ended up on the wrong side of a police line, not the right place to be.
Last night I was watching a movie and they showed the people traveling in a large, panicky crowd. Our heroes made several dumb moves.…Read More...
Now when you go to choose guard animals, the first and most important thing that you have to decide is what do you want the animals to do. If you live in an apartment or house in an urban area your needs will be entirely different that someone who lives in the country and raises animals.
If you live in an apartment you may want a small dog that will give you early warning of a threat. A good example would be one of the smaller terriers. They can be trained and are fairly alert. With a bit of training they make a good watchdog. …Read More...
If you are a parent or grandparent you always worry about protecting children from harm during any life threatening emergencies. Now when I mention harm I am including psychological damage that can be caused by us creating an atmosphere of fear. We don’t want to stress our children out.
After giving this some thought and research I have came up with the following steps for protecting children
1 – Don’t scare them. Don’t start with camo face paint, smoke bombs and talk about killing people or violence.
2 – Make them feel safe. Here is the story of one young child who was raised in hurricane country and was faced with the threat of storms on several occasions. …Read More...
The other night I was watching an old movie on television and they were showing archery with the English longbow. Now I am a history buff, and have read extensively about the use of the longbow during the hundred year war between England and France. This got me to thinking about the use of archery in prepping.
Now I am not a good archer and will never be, because it takes considerable training and strength and I am too old.. During the 14th and 15th centuries, English archers were expected to shoot ten “aimed” shots per minute during battle. A skilled archer would be capable of around twenty shots.…Read More...
Now I have seen all kinds of information on the internet that has been posted about the use of wasp spray for self-defense. The first time I saw it, I questioned it’s use for several reasons, since then I have done additional research on the subject and can find nothing that would convince me it works. Plus, in any self-defense situation, you must know the law as it applies to different scenarios. For that purpose, this book about the law and self-defense is a must have.
- There is no real proof that it works, all the information is just somebody’s story.
I rarely discuss predictions or make guesses about the future, but this time I am going to make an exception. I am old enough to remember all the demonstrations that occurred during the days of rage in Chicago at the 1969 Democratic Convention. The term demonstration is incorrect in reality they were riots, and very close to an armed insurrection. In addition to this, there were numerous demonstrations and riots in various areas of the country, with the stated objective of stopping the war in Viet Nam. They came very close to martial law in some areas.
In reality while many of the people were there to stop the war, it was a movement to change the direction of the political system in this country. …Read More...
Self defence in many states is a bit of a problem. For instance, I live in California which is one of the more restrictive states. Now I am no expert on all the laws, but I have a rough idea of what you can use for self defense in this state. So I am going to throw out a few ideas for people who can’t carry or possess a firearm.
Now in California, you can’t carry a firearm on you without a concealed weapons permit. If you are carrying one in your vehicle without a permit, it needs to be locked up and out of your control as well as unloaded. …Read More...
Now by riot I am referring to a form of civil disorder commonly characterized by a group lashing out in a violent public disturbance against authority, property or people. The type of riot I am referring to is different from an insurrection or TEOTWAWKI. It is normally limited in scope and while it can cover large areas such as the WATTS riots in Los Angeles is normally confined to a limited area.
A major riot will normally only occur in a large city or in a venue where large numbers of people gather. So far there have not been significant riots in small communities, but this could change because of flash mobs.…Read More...
At the time HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, was enacted, it was claimed that it would protect the privacy of people’s identifiable health information. Since then it has been left alone with only minor changes. However on Jan 4, 2016, the Federal Government at the direction of President Obama modified HIPAA to allow health care works to report suspected individuals with mental problems to NICS (The National Instant Criminal Background Check System).
Since then I have been trying to find out what exactly this means. Recently I received the following information from a friend. This is a summary of an article published in Clinical Psychiatry News.…Read More...
