Two simple breakfast recipes that are easy to make in a solar oven. Here is a recipe for making a cereal similar to grape nuts. This recipe makes about five cups of cereal. Take six cups of whole-wheat flour, one cup of brown sugar, two cups buttermilk, one-teaspoon baking soda and one-teaspoon salt.
Mix everything together and spread it out on a cookie sheet and bake for one to two hours or until dry. Grind the mixture up with a meat grinder, if you have one. If not break it up by hand until it looks like grape nuts. Then bake a second time until it is golden brown. Serve with milk and a little honey.
If you lack buttermilk, mix 2 cups water, 2/3 cup powdered milk and two tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice together and substitute for buttermilk. This recipe has been tested and will work in a solar oven.
Wheat cereal, take one half cup of wheat berries and one cup of water in a bowl and soak overnight. Place the mixture in a pot with a tight fitting lid and add a pinch of salt. Place in solar oven and cook for a couple of hours. You will need to add extra water, don’t let it get to runny. Makes about one and a quarter cups of cereal. Add milk and honey and serve.
