Happy New Year, “May you live in interesting times” some say this is an old Chinese Proverb. I certainly think we live in interesting times and this year promises to be very exciting. Between the economy, the election and world affairs, now is a good time to be prepared.
Wither you are a beginner or someone who has been preparing for years, the first of the year is a good time to evaluate your preps. Take an inventory, determine what you are short off and make a plan to fill these holes. Write it down, set a schedule and follow it. Do not go into debt for the purpose.
With a little bit of ingenuity, you can stock up for less than you think. Don’t forget garage sales, auctions and thrift stores, it is amazing what people discard. Plant your garden; ask a farmer if you can glean the fields after the harvest. When you drive down the road and see a fruit tree that no one is picking, contact the owner. They may not want the fruit or be willing to split it with you if you pick it. But ask first.
Learn to can and preserve your own food. Go to the library, do research on the internet and learn all you can. All these things and many others will strengthen your position and help your family to be prepared.
