If you do any camping or traveling, these next few days I will give you a recipe that would be good to try. Finding places to eat, which are healthy is getting harder. Of course you can always go to a restaurant, pay the high price and tip. By using the Wonder Box you have a good meal at any rest stop or at gas stops. This next recipe, you can do the prep work a day ahead and heat it up in the morning. Make corn bread the day before.
In a large pot start browning the meat, until red color is almost gone.
1-11/2 pounds of hamburger
Add the following ingredients and mix well
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced bell pepper
1 cup diced celery
½ cup chopped olives
2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 can cream corn
1 tsp salt
11/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 clove crushed garlic
Adjust your seasonings to your own taste; you may need more of some.
Put the lid on the pot. Bring to boil for 5 minutes and put in Wonder Box for 2 hours.
Serve with corn bread.
Mix your own recipe for corn bread, using pint jars fill ¼ full with batter and put lid on. (ring & lid) Set in pan, filing it just slightly higher than the batter line. Bring to hard boil and put in wonder box. For 40 minutes. The jars should not float in water. (Make sure you have enough batter to prevent that from happening.)
I make a Sheppard’s pie that would be great for a wonder box. Interested?
The Wonder Box is a great way to cook with a minimum use of fuel in an emergency. Instruction on how to make a Wonder Box can be found if you go to the category Preparedness Mom.
