I love this time of the year, its spring and the yard sales are starting. Every year I add to my preps for pennies on the dollar. Last week I bought a good Alice pack complete with fame and all the straps, plus a pistol belt, canteen and a small pouch for the total sum of $10.
This morning I bought a 300-gallon water tank with most of the piping to hook it up to rain gutters for $50. A great buy, since it had only been used for fresh water at a couple of home shows. The tank looks like it has never been used. …Read More...
Summer is starting and so are garage sales. Today for a total of $20, I bought a WW2 entrenching tool in good condition, 2 new pistol belts, one canteen with cover, all military issue and one drawknife. For those of you who don’t know what a drawknife is see the following blog http://bit.ly/14j1QuL. Every year I find an amazing amount of items that I can either use, give to my kids or trade.
With a bit of patients you can find almost anything. Two weeks ago I bought a Honda 1000 watt generator which normally sells for upwards of $800.00…Read More...
Being retired I have time to hit all the local garage sales, junk shops etc. Just recently, I found three Swiss Army twenty-inch long pickaxes with their leather covers. These are a very handy little pickaxe, while they are a bit heavy to carry in your pack; they are great for your vehicle. They are probably made during the 1940s or 50s.
Now I don’t live near any big army bases, but things seem to pop up regularly. The last three weeks has been exceptionally good. I found three woodland camo shirts, 4 Alice packs, only two were complete with frames and webbing, four sets of ACU camo, one US load bearing vest, gen 2 and some miscellaneous pouches. …Read More...
Today I am putting up the post after returning from the garage sales. Not to bad a day I found a small electric square food dehydrator, a hand crank sausage stuffer and grinder, a pair of forceps and some canning jars for a total of $9.25. Not bad. Now I don’t need the dehydrator but I have friends who do, so this will be passed along.
One of the advantages of having prepped for as long as I have, is that you have friends and family who have also been involved for many years. This last week a friend gave me a case of old San Andy whole wheat flour to check. …Read More...
My wife saw a sign being post for a garage sale early this morning. She called me and I ran right over there. We ended up making some very good finds. We purchased a Ronco Dehydrator, new in the box, 8 boxes of canning lids, a new field jacket liner, two extended cold weather parkas brand new, one each in woodland and desert camouflage plus some stuff my wife wanted. We paid $30.00 for all of it.
The dehydrator we don’t need, but some of our friends need one, so we will pass it along. The canning lids we will use, we always need more. …Read More...
Garage sales are a subject I have discussed before, but it is one that is dear to my heart. I have found bargains on so many items. Most Saturday’s I drive a set route thought the better neighborhoods. It is my experience that the upper middle class home have the best sales.
I have found solar panels, dehydrated food, generators, tools of all types including yard and gardening supplies. Just the other day I paid one dollar for an almost new made in the USA shovel. Boots and cold weather clothing show up regularly. They are often from the better suppliers and in good condition to new. …Read More...
I love garage and yard sales, in the last year I have found an amazing amount of gear at them. Just this last week I found an apple corer and slicer my wife wanted for 50 cents. It seems like every time I go I find something. Items, I have found range from candles to an Aqua Rain water filter. The Aqua Rain was a great buy at only $10.
All summer I try and hit the garage sales every weekend. The best time is when they first open. Because of the lack of a good paper in my area, I have a route that I usually follow. …Read More...
