A Review of the Katadyn MyBottle Microfilter

The Katadyn MyBottle Microfilter Bottle is a 24 oz capacity fill as you go bottle. It filters the water as you drink from it.

Combined into a single unit the MyBottle eliminates the need for separate containers or hoses. All you do is fill the bottle from the cleanest available water source and drink from the bottle. A 0.3 micron pleated glassfiber microfilter removes bacteria and cysts, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The filter meets the EPA’s standards for removal of cysts and bacteria.

Unpleasant tastes and odors are removed by the carbon pre-filter. You merely squeeze the bottle and drink from the hands-free, leak-proof bite valve. The bottle fits in most standard water bottle holders.

A drinking straw is included so that you can use the MyBottle as a standard water bottle when filtration isn’t required.

The unit sells for a little over $40, and the replacement filters run about $24.00 each. The replaceable cartridge filters up to 26 gallons of drinking water, depending on the quality of the water source.

This unit is perfect for hiking, biking, paddling or fishing. You just fill the unit and drink. Always used the cleanest water available and avoid turbid if possible.

While I think this is a good, serviceable unit for the price, the filter capacity at 26 gallons is on the low side. This is a good unit for short hikes and day trips, but I would not use it in my bug out bag.

Maybe not the BOB but the GMHB. I have a similar product in there for that 2-3 hike. My GMHB is also the pack I hike and hunt with and these type bottles are great for that. Good Review
