How to be a Prepper and Avoid Going Crazy

I have been a prepper for almost 50 years and still have managed to enjoy life.  During this time, there have been many changes.  First, we were prepping for war with the Soviet Union; everyone thought that it was imminent.  Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, there have been more troubles.  Today we have problems with the economy, concerns about freedom and the fighting throughout the world.  Diseases new or old are always on the horizon.

Today they talk about global warming.  Before that, there was global cooling, acid rain Y2K, and oil and food shortages caused by overpopulation.  It seems like there is always something in the news to worry us.  I have seen people that started prepping out of fear.  They normally were excited about one particular event and rushed to prepare for it.  When nothing happened they quite prepping. (I have bought a lot of good stuff cheap from these people).  Other people react to threats by become sheep and try to ignore what is going on around them.

I have known others who always expected the end to occur next week and as a result lived their life in a state of worry.  To me being a prepper eliminated a lot of the worry.  By being prepared, I worry less.  I know that my family will be taken care of.  I go on trips have been on cruises and live a fairly normal life.  I do things besides prepping.

My advice to newer preppers would be not to panic.  Before you spend a lot of money, do some research and find out what you need.  Look for the best buys and always work to improve your position.  You don’t have to spend every dime you can get your hands on buying supplies.  Don’t go into debt.

Don’t spend so much time being a prepper that you don’t take a bit of time to enjoy the good things of life and if you are religiously inclined draw strength from the scriptures.  Don’t let worry and fear destroy the joy in life.

  1. Went crazy years ago. recommend it. Lots less stress, it’s so much easier to just admit you are nuts and go do what you want than to try to justify it to people. Wacko sets you free. If you are rich you just get to be excentric.
