Ten Quick and Easy Cooking Tips for Preppers

The following cooking tips are some good suggestions  to have in the kitchen to help you cook from scratch.  There are so many things that you can do to make life and cooking easier. I have learned through the years to make meal planning easy. If you’re raising young children  it’s a trial sometimes to get meals ready on time. So here are a few hints to keeping cool.

1. Plan your meal ahead and have all the items out that you need. This also will let you know if you have everything. Next while it’s quiet or nap time. Peel the veggies or potatoes you need. Measure out what you will need for casseroles or a dish that’s new.

2. Keep a mixer of flour, salt and pepper handy in a large shaker, for flouring meats, poultry or fish.

3. Make crumbs easily by saving crackers or plain cookies and crushing them in plastic or paper bag with a rolling pin for coating fish or chicken.

4. Cooking beans, soak them over night and drain the water and refill with fresh before cooking. Do Not add salt until they are done. They will turn hard. Add seasonings when they are 3/4 done.

5. Use a colander to wash your veggies  or salad greens ahead and and leave on paper towel to drain.

6. Use your muffin pan to make stuffed peppers, gelatin molds, baked apples and etc. there are many uses for muffin tins. Have both a large and a small pan.

7. Why make plain biscuits, add small pinches of dried herbs into dough and cut out with small biscuit cutter or cookie cutter to vary the taste. Dried sage or basil are favorites, even roasted garlic.

8. Don’t buy herbs in large containers they start loosing there flavor quickly. Buy fresh if you can or grow your own.

9. Have a burned pan, use baking soda. Cover the bottom of the pan with baking soda and add a little water to make a paste. Let it sit for a while and scrub out with Brillo pad or steel wool. You can also boil it on stove and let set till it cools and then scrub.

10. Have two really good knifes. One a paring knife for potatoes and cutting small stuff and a larger one for cutting vegetables and meat. Don’t use for things other than cooking and keep them sharp.
